School Description
Thank you for your interest in Fort Hays State University, the leader in Online Learning.

Accessibility, connectibility, affordability, and employability - four simple reasons why Fort Hays State University adds up to affordable success. Beginning more than a century ago, Fort Hays State University has grown into a thriving liberal and applied arts, state-assisted institution with an enrollment of more than 9,000 students. The university is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers bachelor's and master's degrees in many fields and provides a wide variety of cultural and intellectual resources, not only for its faculty, staff, and students, but for the western Kansas region and beyond.

Thanks to its high-tech, high-touch learning environment, Fort Hays State University is the best buy in higher education for the entire state of Kansas. The FHSU campus is the safest in the state and one of the most beautiful.

Fort Hays State occupies the southwest corner of Hays, Kansas, a city of about 20,000 people located halfway between Kansas City and Denver on Interstate 70. In 2002, the geography Web site ePodunk.com named Hays the third best college town in the nation in the 'small cities' category.

The university has four colleges - Arts and Sciences, Business and Leadership, Education and Technology, and Health and Life Sciences.

The Graduate School is highly regarded across the United States. The Virtual College, with courses and degree programs available over the Internet and through a variety of other media, is an innovative leader in offering higher education to time- and place-bound students across Kansas and the world.

The university is rich in cultural resources, with a wealth of art exhibits, concerts, recitals and other entertainment each year. The Sternberg Museum of Natural History has evolved from a collection of scientific specimens and donated curios into an internationally renowned research museum with some of the finest fossil collections in the world.

In athletics, few universities of comparable size can equal the varsity and intramural facilities available at Fort Hays State University. FHSU has won national championships in both men's and women's basketball, won national runner-up in baseball and individual athletes have won many all-conference and All-America honors.
